Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman gets $13 million contract update image

The Boston Red Sox and closer Aroldis Chapman don't want this partnership to end.

And that's why they reached agreement on a contract extension Saturday night.

Chapman was set to be a free agent after this season, but no longer. He'll now make $13.3 million to pitch for the Red Sox in 2026, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

The big lefty came to Boston on a $10.75 million one-year contract for this season and has been worth that and so much more.

Chapman might be in the midst of the most dominant run of his career.

The Cuban fireballer has not allowed a hit in more than a month. He allowed both a hit and a run on July 23, and he hasn't allowed either since.

That's 14 consecutive hitless outings, spanning 11.2 innings, with 14 strikeouts in that span and only four walks.

Thanks to the epic stretch, Chapman's season ERA is down to 1.04.

For the season, Chapman has 26 saves. That's the most he's had in a campaign since getting 30 for the Yankees in 2021.

Chapman became mostly a non-closer for a few seasons, with stops in Kansas City, Texas and Pittsburgh.

Last season with the Pirates, Chapman saved 14 games with a 3.79 ERA. It seemed he could still be effective but not dominant.

But then this season rolled around, and Chapman has been as good as ever.

It's quite the sight for Red Sox fans every time he comes jogging in from the bullpen. Lately, the result has been in no doubt at all once Chapman gets the baseball, and he's now got the new contract to prove it.
