The Boston Red Sox have been one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball recently, winning their past seven straight games and nine of their last ten.
With the Red Sox holding the third Wild Card playoff spot and all things clicking right now for the team, the return of All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman could not be coming at a better time. Bregman, who's missed the last 43 games with a right quad strain, is finally set to return from injury.
Though Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with Boston, there is a chance that he opts out after this season. This has led to him being included in trade rumors, though The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal believes that the Red Sox trading Bregman makes no sense.
"The possibility of the Boston Red Sox trading third baseman Alex Bregman is remote," Rosenthal wrote. "Bregman’s name, though, keeps appearing in various deadline previews. For the Red Sox, trading Bregman makes no sense, even if they cannot sign him to an extension before the deadline, even if they stumble while facing a difficult schedule over the next three weeks."
The Sox are trying to make the playoffs. You don’t trade such a player. You sign him long term, and you do it in the offseason, when such business normally takes place. The Sox have enough prospects. What they need is a No. 2 starter and bullpen help, in addition to Bregman. Anyone waiting for a Bregman trade should also be waiting for me to posterize Wembanyama."

Even with missing the last 43 games, Bregman was still named an All-Star this season and is slashing .299/.385/.938 with 11 home runs, 17 doubles and 35 RBIs. Especially after trading away Rafael Devers earlier this season, trading away one of their best players in Bregman makes no sense as the Red Sox fight for a playoff spot.
