The Boston Red Sox have taken the MLB by storm this season, finally moving on from years of mediocrity. The Red Sox have a few people to thank, one of which is their former no. 1 overall prospect, Roman Anthony.
Anthony has been tearing it up since July, and has been an amazing leadoff hitter and good fielder for the Sox. Manager Alex Cora believes so too, but he also had high praise for another part of Anthony’s game, something he didn’t even know Anthony had; baserunning.
“Roman Anthony’s ability to run the bases is impressive. We’ve been talking about his offense for three weeks. The best part of his game is that he’s been precise. Good instincts, great jumps, always taking the extra base, and that’s something I didn’t know about him. And the more I see him, the more he impresses me,” Cora said (via Marino Pepen).
Anthony has become a key part of the Red Sox’ success. This season, he’s slashing .277/.401/.436/.837 with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 34 walks in 54 games. He’s also hit a walkoff, which helped the Sox sweep the Houston Astros, another team that could get into the Wildcard race, earlier this season.

To top it all off, the man runs the bases very well. He scored the winning run last night against the Miami Marlins in another walkoff. He’s a complete five-tool player, and the Sox are glad to have him long-term. Hopefully, Anthony will be able to keep contributing, and put the Sox in the playoffs for the first time in years.
