The Baltimore Orioles could be seeing a familiar face land with a division rival this offseason, as former manager Brandon Hyde is expected to join the Tampa Bay Rays’ coaching staff in an undisclosed role, per FanSided’s Robert Murray.
Hyde managed the Orioles from 2019-2025, and was a big part in the team’s resurrection during the 2020’s. In parts of seven seasons in Baltimore, Hyde managed a 421-492 record, and reached the postseason in both 2023, and 2024. However, Hyde never won a playoff game during his tenure with the Orioles.
Hyde’s Orioles experienced the highest of highs, and lowest of lows throughout his tenure, losing over 100 games twice, while also winning 90 games or more twice and reaching the postseason.
Hyde was fired by the Orioles in May of 2025 after an abysmal 15-28 start to the season. After a long layoff, Hyde will now join the Rays to help with their own resurrection.
The Rays are coming off of a disappointing 77-85 season in 2025, and have missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons after making it five seasons in a row from 2019-2023. If they wish to get back to the top of the American League East, Hyde’s experience with rebuilding teams should be beneficial to them in the long run.
