Tiz The Law could not catch up to Authentic down the stretch of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday in a thrilling rush to the finish line.

Tiz The Law, the heavy favorite, finished second by 1 1/4 lengths after winning the Belmont Stakes earlier in the year. He started quicker than expected but did not produce his typical late burst.

Mr. Big News finished third. Honor A.P. salvaged a horrendous start by coming in fourth.

This year's Kentucky Derby took place without spectators because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The quiet scene presented a sharp contrast to the typical large crowds donning extravagant outfits and headwear.
