There were many standouts in Texas last week that helped their teams get to the doorstep of playing for a state championship.

Those included several outstanding rushing performances, dual-threat quarterbacks doing their thing and some defensive gems, too.

Here’s a look at those top performers from the fourth week of the Texas playoffs. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the Texas Player of the Week. Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the winner will be announced next week.

Top performances from Week 4 of the playoffs in Texas high school football

Kaegan Ash, Mount Enterprise

The Wildcats’ senior standout was at it again in their 64-58 win against Bremond in the 2A DII regional finals. He rushed for 501 yards on 47 carries and six TDs while catching two passes for 102 yards and two more TDs. Ash, who now has 4,322 rushing yards this season, also became the state’s all-time single-season record-holder in that category, breaking a mark that stood for 72 years.

SaRod Baker, DeSoto

Baker continued his phenomenal postseason with another superb outing in the Eagles’ 60-41 win against Willis in the 6A Division II Region II final. The running back carried the ball 38 times and produced 384 yards and seven TDs.

Dan Bartlett, East Bernard

Bartlett, a senior quarterback, completed 23-of-36 passes for 376 yards and four TDs as the Brahmas defeated Tidehaven, 34-31, in the 3A DII regional final round.

Gavin Beard, Fort Worth All Saints

Beard, a senior quarterback, completed 24-of-34 passes for 250 yards and four TDs to help lead the Saints to a 34-16 win against Houston Second Baptist in the TAPPS Division II title game.

Marcus Brouse, Southlake Carroll

Brouse, a senior, had 10 solo tackles, three solo stops, four tackles for loss, three sacks, four quarterback pressures and a caused fumble in the undefeated Dragons’ 51-19 win against Denton Guyer in the 6A DII regional title game.

Drew Burton, Dallas Parish Episcopal

Burton, a senior defensive back, was in on 11 tackles along with a tackle for loss, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery which he returned for 11 yards in the Panthers’ 14-7 win against Prestonwood Christian in the TAPPS Division I championship game.

Casen Carney, Muenster

A senior quarterback, Carney had the same exact number of passing yards and rushing yards in the Hornets’ 28-14 win against Lindsay in the 2A DII regional finals. Carney passed for 103 yards and two scores and also rushed for 103 yards on 16 carries with a TD.

Jeremiah Daoud, Allen

Daoud, a senior quarterback, completed 13-of-22 passes for 207 yards and three TDs to lift the undefeated Eagles to a 33-21 win against defending 6A DI champion North Crowley in the regional final round.

Alex Eugene, Port Arthur Memorial

Eugene, a sophomore tailback, rushed for 125 yards and three TDs as the Titans stayed undefeated after a 48-35 win against Barbers Hill in the 5A DI regional finals.

Alex Fenner, Gunter

A junior receiver, Fenner caught four passes for 92 yards and scored three TDs - all in the first half - as the Tigers rolled past Leonard, 45-14, in the 3A DII regional finals.

Jace Jackson, Lubbock Christian

Jackson, a senior, completed 10-of-17 passes for 143 yards and two TDs while rushing for 118 yards on 12 carries and two more scores in the Eagles’ 36-30 win against Dallas Christian in the TAPPS Division III title game.

Khelvy Jefferson, West Orange-Stark

Jefferson, a junior running back, carried 33 times and produced 250 yards and three TDs as the Mustangs defeated Waco La Vega, 35-20, in the 4A DII regional final round.

Trot Jordan, Stephenville

Jordan, a junior quarterback, completed 13-of-24 passes for 221 yards and two TDs while adding 87 yards rushing on 10 carries and two more scores in the undefeated Yellowjackets’ 41-21 win against West Plains in the 4A DI regional finals.

Mason Landers, Grandview

A junior quarterback, Landers was 12-of-15 passing for 198 yards and three TDs and added 117 yards rushing on 22 carries with two more scores in the Zebras’ 35-18 win against Pottsboro in the 3A DI regional final round.

Kaleb Maryland, Galena Park North Shore

Maryland, a senior quarterback, accounted for nearly 300 yards of total offense in the Mustangs’ 46-29 win against Dickinson in the 6A DI regional final round. He threw for 244 yards and three TDs while adding two more scores on the ground.

Cooper Null, La Vernia

Null, a junior quarterback, passed for 76 yards and a TD while adding 225 yards rushing on 31 carries and three more scores in the Bears’ 38-27 win against San Antonio Davenport in the 4A DI regional final.

Jamarion Phillips, South Oak Cliff

Phillips, a senior linebacker, registered 10 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception as the Golden Bears defeated Port Neches-Groves, 28-0, in the 5A DII Region II final. SOC held PNG to less than 200 yards total offense.

J’Coryon Rivers, Duncanville

Rivers, a senior quarterback, completed 15-of-19 passes for 156 yards and three TDs as the Panthers defeated Waxahachie, 35-27, in the 6A DI regional finals, avenging Duncanville’s only loss this season.

Lincoln Schleif, Dallas First Baptist Academy

A junior receiver, Schleif caught three passes - all going for TDs - while totaling 195 yards in the Saints’ 62-44 win against Bryan Brazos Christian in the TAPPS Division IV title game.

Gunnar Shoquist, Smithson Valley

Shoquist, a sophomore tailback, rushed for 184 yards on 20 carries with a TD and also caught a TD pass in the Rangers’ 24-0 win against New Braunfels in the 5A DI regional final round.

Dionne Sims, Houston Sheldon King

Sims, a senior tailback, ran for 229 yards on 36 carries and scored all three TDs for the Panthers in their 24-21 win against Humble Summer Creek.

Grant Sweeney, Boerne

Sweeney, a junior quarterback, was 17-of-29 passing for 344 yards and three TDs while rushing for 147 yards on 21 carries and four more scores in the Greyhounds’ 56-49 win against San Antonio Alamo Heights in the 5A DII regional finals.

Landen Williams-Callis, Richmond Randle

The Class of ’27 running back sensation was at it again in the Lions’ 5A DII regional championship game against Iowa Colony. Williams-Callis ran for 221 yards and five TDs in Randle’s 45-35 win.

Zander Wills, Refugio

Wills, a senior, rushed for 175 yards on 23 carries and two TDs, while on defense, recorded 13 total tackles along with three tackles for loss, a sack and a caused fumble in the Bobcats’ 27-13 win against Mason.

Trey Wright, Frisco Lone Star

Just a sophomore, the quarterback turned in a dazzling performance in the Rangers’ 58-38 regional final win against Highland Park. Wright threw for 477 yards and three TDs while adding 176 yards rushing.
