Jon Rahm earnings: Torrid start to 2023 PGA Tour season sets historic pace with Genesis Invitational win image

Jon Rahm won The Genesis Invitational on Sunday with an impressive four-round score of 17-under — two shots ahead of second-place Max Homa.

It was Rahm's third win on the PGA Tour this season, not to mention his seventh finish in the top 10 and fifth in the top five. It also resulted in an incredible $3.6 million payout, easily his biggest of the season. (That's certainly helped by the Genesis Invitational's massive purse, which is tied for second-most on the PGA Tour this season at $20 million).

But his incredible play this season, coupled with the elevation of select tournaments to have increased purse sizes in 2022-23, has resulted in several massive paydays for the Spanish golfer.

Rahm had made $9.86 million on the PGA Tour in just seven tournaments played. Moreover, the No. 1 player according to the Official World Golf Rankings does not have any official money listed for his play at the Hero World Challenge, where he finished tied for eighth in December.

All that to say: Rahm has made himself considerably richer in the 2022-23 PGA Tour, earning roughly $1.4 million per tournament played so far. Here's a breakdown of his PGA Tour payouts this season, as well as where he finished in each tournament:

Most profitable PGA Tour events remaining

Rahm's money earned thus far this season already exceeds the total earnings of four of the last five PGA Tours. Only Scottie Scheffler ($13.17 million earned in 2022) has earned more than Rahm has this season — and the former after a full season.

If Rahm continues his pace of play — and with several other massively profitable tournaments on the horizon — Rahm could break the record for most official money earned on the PGA Tour this season.

It's worth noting several tournaments have received "elevated" status by the PGA Tour starting this season, a direct response to the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf Tour, which has offered incredible payouts for tournaments on the tour (and likewise lured some of the PGA Tour's top talent):

Where Jon Rahm ranks in official money earned

As it stands now, Rahm's total earnings this year have already made his 2023 season one of the most profitable in the history of the PGA Tour. He currently ranks ninth all-time in total official money earned when compared to official money leaders from seasons. He still is several million dollars behind Scheffler's $13.17 million mark, set in just last season.

That said, Rahm has the distinct advantage of having only played in seven tournaments thus far this season. He has all four majors, several elevated tournaments and three FedEx Cup Playoff events still to play. If he continues on his current pace, he will smash Scheffler's record.

Here's where Rahm ranks among the all-time most lucrative PGA Tour events in history (money listed reflects official season-by-season money leaders, via PGA):
