Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Rankings, lineup advice for Monday, July 3 image

Monday's 10-game schedule starts early with an afternoon affair between the Orioles and Brewers at 2:10 p.m. ET. There's also a 6:05 p.m. ET first pitch between the Mets and Nationals. Unfortunately, that second start takes Stephen Strasburg and Steven Matz out of the potential pitcher picks for those playing the main slates in daily fantasy baseball contests.

There are still some good hurlers to choose from, but there isn't a ton of strikeout upside unless you're willing to take a chance with Jeff Hoffman (vs. Reds in Colorado), Alex Meyer (at MIN) or Carlos Rodon (at OAK). You're best bet for a solid, high-K performance is probably Aaron Nola, but you don't necessarily need to chase a ton of strikeouts on a day like this.

Today's DFS Playbook focuses on the eight-game main slate tonight, which looks more like a GPP slate than a cash-game slate. There is a game at Coors that features the highest projected run total tonight with the Rockies projected to score almost a full run more than any other team. Outside of Coors, the Red Sox at Rangers also have both teams sitting at over five projected runs tonight.

There are currently no teams projected to score under four runs tonight, with the White Sox and Pirates sitting at a little over four currently.  With no pitcher over $9K on FD and only Marcus Stroman over $10K on DK, the pitching is wide open tonight.  Without a clear-cut favorite pitcher, I have no problem going cheap with pitching to load up on hitters. My best advice is to stick with GPPs tonight, having a lineup with Coors exposure and then one focusing on great matchups for hitters in other games.

Top Narratives:

1.  The Blue Jays have scored over four runs just once in their past 10 games, while the Yankees have allowed at least five runs 11 times while going 5-14 over last 19 games.

2.  The Rockies, losers of 10 of their past 11 games, had only four doubles, one triple, and three homers in 317 ABs during their nine-game road trip. Cincinnati has lost 14 of past 16 road games.

3.  Texas leads the majors with 17 blown saves this season, and its hitters are averaging 9.33 strikeouts per game.

4.  Oakland has lost seven straight home games.

5.  Twins starters have gone past six innings in just two of their past 18 games. -- Ben Scherr
