Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Rankings, lineup advice for Tuesday, May 9 image

The swings-and-misses will be plentiful on Tuesday, as a host of high-K starters are set to take the hill. That means there are plenty of potential pitcher picks worth considering in daily fantasy baseball contests, starting with No. 1 in our SP rankings, Max Scherzer.

Despite being high on our list, guys like Carlos Carrasco, Robbie Ray, Drew Pomeranz, and even Justin Verlander are usually better suited for GPPs over cash games, but even in cash formats, you might not want to follow the crowd and go with Scherzer today. The respective strikeout abilities of the pitchers can help them salvage mediocre starts. Julio Urias might actually be the next "safest" cash play despite the fact he's unlikely to go more than six innings.

A.J. Griffin, Jeff Samardzija, Dan Straily, Charlie Morton, and Adam Wainwright are all averaging at least a K per inning this year, with several of them well above that mark. While any pitcher can toss seven scoreless innings on a given night, these guys are more likely to put up big points with high-strikeout performances.

Hopefully you faded Cubs and Rockies and were able to cash in on Jed Lowrie’s two-homer night on Monday. For Tuesday's Playbook, we will ignore the two early games (Game 1 of the Cubs-Rockies doubleheader and Rangers-Padres). That leaves us with a 14-game slate tonight starting at the normal 7:05 pm ET.

There are plenty of lefthanded starters going today, so you’ll see a heavy investment in early wOBA returns against the southpaws. There are also a bunch of hitter-friendly parks in play, including Coors Field, Great American Ball Park, and Fenway Park.

The corner infield spots and the outfield seem like the deepest positions tonight, but, once again, second base and shortstop are more limited. We suggest spending at the bigger positions and finding values at the others.

Cincinnati could see some weather issues tonight, giving the Yankees-Reds a 50/50 shot of getting the game in. With all the impact bats playing in that one, you definitely have to keep an eye on it. We also aren’t completely clear for the Cubs-Rockies nightcap in Colorado. Check our Weather Center for updates throughout the day. -- Nick Berns
