Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl dropped on October 3, and it’s already rewriting power-play pop era rules. The album shattered Spotify’s single-day streaming record for 2025, sold 2.7 million copies in the U.S. on day one, and even knocked 25 off Adele’s long-held first-week throne.
And while the showstopper is packed with instant hits, no track has captured the internet’s imagination quite like “Wood.” With cheeky double entendres and unmistakable nods to Travis Kelce, it quickly became the steamiest headline of the 35-year-old pop sensation’s Showgirl rollout. And now, one of her biggest fans just happens to be family.
On the October 9 episode of her podcast Not Gonna Lie, Kylie Kelce — Swift’s soon-to-be sister-in-law — revealed her top “bops” on Showgirl. “My favorites on the album are definitely ‘Wi$h Li$t,’ ‘Opalite,’ and, who are we kidding, ‘Wood,’” Kylie said. “Here’s the deal, do I need that much detail, specifically about my brother-in-law? Probably not. But also…” — cue the clapping — “Good job, Trav! That’s it! Guys, yes, 1000%, yes. That’s women supporting women. Proud of ya.”
The very next day — on New Heights — things got spicy. Kylie’s husband, Jason Kelce, grilled his younger brother: “Do you feel cocky?” Travis laughed it off. “Any song that she references me in is… I love that girl,” he said. Jason pushed: “That’s not just any song, this is a very specific you. It’s not just you, though, it’s an appendage.” Travis shot back: “I think you’re not understanding the song.” Without skipping a beat, Jason replied, “Jesus Christ, Travis, come on. No way,” before dropping a lyric: “Redwood tree, ain’t hard to see.” Travis couldn’t help but crack up.
As for Swift, she’s kept the mystery alive. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she joked that “Wood” started as a song about superstitions — the literal kind — before it took on a life of its own. And in a separate interview on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, she revealed that even her mom, Andrea Swift, thinks it’s about “popular superstitions.” The “Actually Romantic" singer laughed, saying, “That’s the joy of the double entendre!”
