College field hockey is coming back with a bang. Two of the sport's best programs will go head-to-head Friday — Northwestern and Duke.
The defending champion Wildcats have returned strongly to the field, defeating Richmond and VCU handily in their first two matchups. Northwestern shut out both teams, with graduate transfer Grace Schulze, sophomore Laura Salamanca and Maja Ziovjnovic all playing key roles.
No. 5 Duke had a tougher debut, barely losing to No. 17 Liberty, 4-3. The Blue Devils recovered shortly after by defeating American 2-1, with sophomore Julia Boehringer and senior Alaina McVeigh each tallying a goal.
