The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest has become a semi-predictable event in recent years.

Joey Chestnut has won the men's competition five straight years, and 13 of the past 14 contests. Miki Sudo has won the women's side for each of the past seven years.

But this year, Sudo will not compete after announcing she's expecting her first child. Her announcement leaves the field open for anyone to emerge as the new champion in the women's contest, as only Sonya Thomas and Sudo have won the event since it began in 2011.

Still, eating fans can watch Jaws return to Coney Island — this time at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn — to see if he can set a new record after doing so in last year's event (which was not open to the public). This year's event will be open to spectators again in the stadium, just outside the Nathan's Famous restaurant.
