The bright lights of the NFL Draft. That is what cornerback Kaiir Elam experienced in 2022 when the Buffalo Bills made him their first-round pick, taking him 23rd overall. Those days seem like a distant memory now as Elam is now on his third team after being released by the Dallas Cowboys last week and signed by the Tennessee Titans this week. He comes to a Titans team that is depleted in the secondary and needs some players to step in and play immediately. So, with that being said, how comfortable is Elam with the system in Tennessee?

“It’s been very, I would not say easy, but I have learned it very quickly.”

The Titans are hoping Elam feels right at home, as they cut Samuel Womack III, who was playing in last week’s game, to sign Elam. He has a good size, standing at 6’1”, and has quickness and lateral movement. That has never really been the issue. The issue has been his ability to cover receivers on the field.

Elam has not been able to do that consistently, which has led to him being on his third team in the last twelve months. He has had a propensity to give up big plays repeatedly in his time in the NFL. Couple that with him having issues with using his hands too much covering receivers, which leads to penalties, and you understand why he is where he is now in his career.

For the Titans, they hope he can come in and, with another fresh start, be serviceable at cornerback or wherever they may line him up. Because, to be honest, they are in dire need of depth at the corner, with people hurt or traded and needing someone to be consistent for them. This is a golden opportunity for Elam, as he is again looking to make an impact and show the promise that he showed when Buffalo selected him.
