It's gut-check time for the Kansas City Chiefs, and the locker room knows it.

With the Chiefs coming off their bye week, at 5-4 and facing the Denver Broncos and then the Indianapolis Colts, the locker room knows that the time has come to start a winning streak.

Granted, we have seen teams come out of their bye week and play with cement in their cleats (hello, Buffalo), and the Chiefs will want to guard against that, especially against Denver.

And according to head coach Andy Reid, his team has hit the practice field in the exact manner he wanted, given the urgency needed to start winning games.

“They understand that, they were out there, and we can go lock ourselves in the office and do that stuff as they're out there and they hear everything, see everything with the time off,” Reid said.

“So, they understand they're focused, locked in, ready to go, ready to get back to work and get better, and as a head coach, that's all you can ask for.”

Chiefs know it's gut-check time

As odd as it sounds, if the Chiefs, for argument's sake, lose their next two games, it would put into serious doubt whether or not Kansas City would even make the postseason.

At the time of writing, if the playoffs started today, the Chiefs would be on the outside looking in, which would be the first time that has happened in Patrick Mahomes' tenure.

Now, we are getting a little ahead of ourselves there, but that is what faces the Chiefs. At 5-4, the margin for error is fading, and with two contenders (if you want to call them that) up next, the next fortnight will tell us a lot about the 2025 Chiefs.

Reid says his team heard and saw everything said about them in the bye week. Let's see if it resonates and leads to a win on the road in Denver.
