The Philadelphia Eagles’ narrow 10-7 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football last Sunday increased Philly’s lead in the NFC East and may not have thrilled Cowboys fans at first glance. However, the result could end up working in Dallas’ favor, with the Cowboys owning Green Bay’s 2026 first-round pick as part of the return package in the August blockbuster that sent superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Packers.

Green Bay's struggles are good news for Dallas.

Green Bay's second straight loss dropped the Packers (5-3-1) to third place in the NFC North behind Detroit and Chicago, who both sit at 6-3. Looking ahead, the Packers face the ninth-toughest remaining schedule in the NFL according to Tankathon, whose "Remaining Schedule Strength” calculator is based on the combined winning percentage for all remaining opponents.

There’s also the psychological and strategic angle. Any hint of turmoil in Green Bay benefits Dallas, and another low-scoring loss has brought increased scrutiny on the Packers’ coaching staff and offensive scheme following consecutive subpar performances from their offensive unit.

Of course, there’s an important counterpoint to all of this: if the Packers make the playoffs, the eventual position of that draft pick will hinge on how far they advance, not their regular-season record. A deep playoff run could wipe out the benefits of this losing streak entirely.

But there’s also a counter to that counterpoint. A worse regular-season record typically means a lower playoff seed, which usually results in a tougher postseason path. Lower seeds face elite opponents on the road, making a deep run more challenging. In other words, a shakier regular season still increases the odds of an earlier exit for the Packers, which is good news for Dallas.

So while an Eagles win is rarely welcome in Dallas, and while there’s still a long way to go before draft night next April, the ripple effects of this result may ultimately work out well for Jerry Jones and Co. Moving forward.
