Since beginning his sportscasting career in 1967, Michaels' voice has accompanied unforgettable moments in baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, horse racing, and boxing. He's portrayed himself in feature films, and his voice can be heard on several iterations of the John Madden NFL video game series.

Michaels' ascent to becoming a sports media icon began during his early years. He was raised by parents who worked in the business of sports and entertainment, and the broadcaster is one of many family members who have since made their own foray into the business.

Al Michaels wife: Linda Anne Stamaton

Michaels' wife is Linda Anne Stamaton.

Stamaton attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, which is where she met Michaels. The two are a month apart in age, met in 10th grade, and began dating in high school.

The high school sweethearts wed in August 1966, when they were working on "The Dating Game." Michaels has said, "[Linda] is the love of my life. She is just the greatest. That is the biggest piece of luck that ever came down the pike for me."

Michaels and Stamaton have two children together.

Al Michaels son: Steve Michaels

Al's son, Steve, is the chairman of Pantheon Media Group.

Born in 1970, Steve launched Asylum Entertainment as a production company in 2003. He sold the company to Legendary Entertainment in 2013 before buying it back in 2018. Asylum Entertainment Group changed its name to Pantheon Media Group to begin 2025.

Steve has over 100 production credits to his name, per IMDb, including executive producing four episodes of ESPN's "30 for 30."

Al Michaels daughter: Jennifer Michaels Cohn

Jennifer Michaels Cohn is Al's daughter.

She was born in 1974 and graduated from the University of South Carolina. Jennifer is married to Jeff Cohn, founder and CEO of Syndicated Maps. The couple has two children together: son Nate and daughter Emily.

Al Michaels dad: Jay Michaels

Al is the son of Jay Michaels, a sports talent agent and TV producer originally from Brooklyn, N.Y.. He was described as a "mid-level MCA executive with a passion for sports."

During Al's early years, his dad's day job was as a talent agent, but he was a PA announcer at New York's Roosevelt Raceway by night, something that inspired Al to become an announcer.

In 1960, Jay helped negotiate the old AFL's original television contract. His time in the business also included him having a role in the formation of the TV production company Trans World International.

Jay died of lung cancer in 1984. He was 56 years old.

Al Michaels mom: Lila Michaels

Al's mother is Lila Michaels (née Roginsky).

Like Al's father, Lila was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. She also worked in the entertainment business as a game-show contestant coordinator for Barry & Enright Productions. As explained by Al, his parents were 18 when he was born, and his mother infamously did not force him to eat vegetables, and he has never consumed one in his life.

Al described his mom as a "combination of Phyllis Diller and Joan Rivers," saying, "She was always the life of the neighborhood, in our apartment building in Brooklyn, our neighborhood in Bellmore and in Los Angeles.

"My friends just loved her. She was hysterical and did things other mothers didn’t … The other mothers weren’t like my mom."

Al's younger brother, David, had this to say of their mother: “Every kid at school would want to come back to my house so they could hear my mom tell jokes and be funny. She swore like a sailor.”

Al Michaels sister: Susan Michaels

Susan is Al's younger sister and the youngest child of Jay and Lila.

Not much is known about Susan outside of her place in the family, as Sports Business Journal shared an older photo of Al, his brother, David, and their parents. In it, Al was 13 years old and their parents were expecting Susan.

Al Michaels brother: David Michaels

Al's younger brother is David.

Like his brother, David is in the world of sports, only he is behind the camera. David is a live sports director and producer who has won Emmy Awards and has enjoyed over 30 years in the industry with CBS and NBC, working the Olympic Games, Tour de France, the NFL, NHL, The Triple Crown of Horse Racing, the Breeders Cup and a host of documentaries.

David is a graduate of the University of Denver and was also an editor of a newspaper in Idaho Springs, Colo., as well as a press secretary for a US Senator in Washington, D.C.

Where is Al Michaels from?

Michaels is from Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was born and raised until his early teenage years.

Michaels' family moved to Los Angeles in 1958, and he attended L.A.'s Alexander Hamilton High School before attending college at Arizona State University.
