Basketball fans around the world are gearing up for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is set to tip off in late August in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. Countries have narrowed down their rosters and the groups are set for the tournament.
The Group Stage will consist of two rounds, filtering the best countries in the world for the single-elimination tournament to compete for a gold medal.

2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup groups
How does the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup Group Stage work?
There will be eight groups to begin the first round of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The top two countries in each group will then be placed into four groups of four countries for the second round of the tournament. Then, the top two countries in each of the second round groups will qualify for the single-elimination tournament to compete for a gold medal.
As for the countries eliminated in the first round, they will also be placed into four groups of four for the classification round. Those countries will not be able to compete in the single-elimination tournament for a medal, but the classification round still holds meaning for their world rankings and potential qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics.

When is the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup?

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is set to tip off on Friday, Aug. 25. The Group Stages will run through Sept. 3 with the single-elimination knockout stage beginning on Sept. 5.
The tournament will conclude with the gold medal match on Sunday, Sept. 10.
