Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally got their hands on the coveted Indian Premier League trophy on June 3 in Ahmedabad after being denied it for 17 seasons.

Following the 6-run win over the Punjab Kings, the highest run scorer of the league, Kohli, was seen in tears on the pitch, as he ended his IPL curse.

The legendary batter completed the season with 657 runs in 16 appearances and was part of the starting lineup right from the beginning in all of RCB's matches.

Speaking to Matthew Hayden during the celebrations after the match, Kohli pointed out his ability and mindset that helps him stay fit and field for 20 overs and not prefer to go off as an impact player.

"By the time that I hang up my boots, I want to sit at home and say I gave it everything I had. So I look for ways to improve. I can't play as an impact player, I want to feel 20 overs and make an impact in the field. That's the kind of player I have been. And God has blessed me with that perspective, with the talent. And then you find different ways to help the team," said Kohli to the broadcaster.

There is no conclusive evidence that Kohli's words were aimed as a veiled dig at Sharma. The MI star, however, played as an Impact Player in most of his team's games in the IPL 2025 season and only came on the pitch white batting.
