Valuation gap halts PSG's pursuit of Premier League star before Club World Cup image

PSG’s bid to land Bournemouth center-back Illia Zabarnyi has stalled, with just hours left before the FIFA Club World Cup registration deadline.

Despite the French side's push to wrap up the signing before their flight to Los Angeles on Tuesday(June 10), the two clubs remain locked in a valuation standoff.

According to L’Équipe, the French champions offered over €50 million [$57m], but Bournemouth are standing firm at €70 million [$80m].

The 22-year-old Ukrainian defender played in 36 Premier League games last season and has been on PSG’s radar for weeks, and while the talks did accelerate in recent days, they haven’t moved fast enough, and now time is no longer a luxury.

If no deal is reached by the night of June 10, Zabarnyi will not be registered for the Club World Cup in the USA, which starts on June 14.

As per reports, Bournemouth are in no rush to sell, and the Cherries want a replacement lined up before letting Zabarnyi leave, and the English club is playing for time while assessing the market.

Moreover, the defender himself is in limbo; currently with Ukraine in Toronto ahead of a friendly against New Zealand, Zabarnyi is reportedly eager to make the move.

“He must be finding time dragging in Canada,” reported L’Équipe, describing the sense of isolation surrounding the player’s situation.
