Bayern Munich chief reveals fresh update on star player's contract renewal image

Bayern Munich are off to a brilliant start in the 2025/26 season as they won all the six fixtures across competition including the recent triumph over Chelsea in the Champions League

While most of the players have shown improvement under manager Vincent Kompany, Serge Gnabry has been in tremendous form whilst deputizing for the injured Jamal Musiala.

The German international, who was uncertain about his future in Bavaria this summer has suddenly become one of the most consistent players for Bayern Munich this season.

Gnabry has showed exceptional adaptability to play in a more central role despite his usual preference of playing in the wide areas. He has shown hunger to improve and his work ethic in big games has been immense for the German giants.

He has impressed Kompany, his teammates, fans and even the Bayern Munich hierarchy are surprised by his performances this season.

Therefore, ahead of the Hoffenheim trip in the Bundesliga, sporting director Christoph Freund has revealed that the 30-year-old could be handed a new contract.

"It's a joy to watch Serge Gnabry play at the moment, the most important thing is that he's fit – we know what we have in him. He also has an outstanding character, which is also extremely important. Our goal is for him to stay fit and continue playing like this, then we'll all be very happy with him," Freund told the reporters at the press conference.

What did the Freund reveal about Gnabry's contract renewal at Bayern Munich?

Gnabry wasn't at his best last season as he finished with seven goals and nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Hence, he was among the players Bayern Munich were looking to sell in the summer transfer window.

But with Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman's departure, Musiala's injury and Bayern's struggle to sign their potential targets meant Gnabry kept his spot.

However, Gnabry has bounced back stronger this season with two goals and four assists in six appearances across competitions.

He has developed into a vital cog under Kompany's influence and has filled up for Musiala with some superlative performance.

"Things always happen quickly. First, he was a potential candidate for sale in the media, now it's about a contract extension," Freund said when asked about his form and future at the club.

According to reports via SPORT1, Bayern Munich hierarchy are willing to see whether Gnabry can maintain his exceptional form for the next few months and then only decide about a new contract.

The Bavarians have faced similar consequences with Sane and are therefore extra cautious with the 30-year-old versatile winger, who will supposedly have a rotational role once Musiala returns from injury.

So, Gnabry needs to continue his superlative performances in the coming games for Bayern Munich to secure a new contract as his current one expires next summer.
