Chelsea are all set to take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on matchday 1 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The match is set to be an intriguing battle between two of Europe’s most in-form teams and features some of the world’s best footballers on display.
What adds another level of drama to this encounter is that it will feature Nicolas Jackson against his parent club, just days after he left Chelsea to join the German side.
The transfer became a seriously dramatic saga when, at the last minute, it was almost cancelled following Liam Delap’s injury.
It did eventually go through (as a loan), and the striker and his agents have spent the time since distancing him from a return to Chelsea.
Now, speaking ahead of the game on Wednesday night, Chelsea captain Reece James has delivered his verdict on the transfer and admitted to being ‘surprised’ by it.

When asked about his equation with Jackson, James started praising the striker whom he knew ‘really well.’
“I was surprised. I didn’t expect him to go. But I think the player wanted a solution and the club wanted a solution as well, I’m not sure how the situation came about.
“But he’s an amazing player and Bayern have got a super good number 9 in him. And I wish him all the best – just not tonight.”

Since James has claimed to know Jackson well, that familiarity should hold him in good stead when he comes face to face with the Senegal international in Wednesday night’s encounter.
