Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin has delivered his verdict on a piece of business that the club conducted during the recently concluded summer transfer window.

There were plenty of incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, especially in the attacking third of the pitch

This included the Blues signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and selling Noni Madueke to Arsenal.

The arrival of Garnacho from United has been greeted with mixed reactions from the Chelsea fanbase.

While some, like John Obi Mikel, back the Argentine to succeed at his new club, others are not convinced by the signing.

Now, Nevin has weighed in with his opinion on the matter and said that he is not convinced by the particular piece of business.

Pat Nevin not convinced by Alejandro Garnacho replacing Noni Madueke at Chelsea

Pat Nevin has said that he is not convinced by Chelsea’s decision to sell Madueke and replace him with Garnacho in the same window.

Writing in his BBC Football Extra newsletter (15 September), Nevin said: “Considering Alejandro Garnacho has arrived after Noni Madueke left for a mere £10million more to light up their London rivals, Arsenal, Chelsea fans expect Garnacho to provide just as much as Madueke this season.

“I will be keeping a close eye on that comparison. Chelsea are rightly proud of their trading programme, but this is one I am yet to be convinced by.”

Nevin’s stance is accentuated by the fact that Madueke made an instant impact against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Garnacho also had a good start to his Chelsea career against Brentford on the same day.

However, the Argentine was partly at fault for the late equaliser that Chelsea conceded, which denied the Blues all three points against Brentford.
