After one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer, Alejandro Garnacho finally made his debut for Chelsea at the weekend’s 2-2 draw over Brentford.

Enzo Maresca decided to bring on Garnacho late in the second half with the Blues chasing a winner, with the game in the balance at 1-1.

And though the Argentine played a key role in setting up Moises Caicedo for Chelsea’s second goal, Garnacho was also at fault for Brentford’s equaliser that saw his team drop points for the second time this season.

Garnacho failed to track his runner from a throw-in that eventually resulted in Brentford’s equaliser on the night.

All in all, it is safe to say that Garnacho had a mixed debut for his new club and the fans are divided about his performance.

In such a scenario, Sky Sports Pundit Jamie Redknapp has delivered his verdict on Garnacho’s debut for his new club.

While reviewing Brentford’s equaliser, fingers were pointed at Garnacho’s inability to track Carvalho at the back post was criticised, with the long throw-in going all the way through via a flick-on.

Redknapp was amongst those who criticised the new Chelsea man, saying he fell asleep in the crucial moment that ended up costing the Blues.

Alejandro Garnacho

He told Sky Sports, “Garnacho has got a job to do. He’s got to mark Carvalho. If he gets in behind, it’s on you. He falls asleep at the vital moment, they get that contact, and there he is at the back post.”

Though Garnacho was never known for his defensive abilities, his contribution to the concession of the goal is certain to disappoint him.
