Match no. 17 in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season witnessed an absolute thriller, as Washington Freedom (WF) chased down a massive total of 214 against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR).

Put to bat first, the Jason Holder-led side scored 213 runs in their quota of 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant century from Andre Fletcher.

With just seven runs needed off the final over, Andre Russell got hit for a boundary by Obus Pienaar on the very first ball. The West Indian all-rounder made a fine comeback with three consecutive dots before Pienaar took a single and put Phillips on strike for the final ball of the game.

Russell called his fielders inside the 30-yard circle to defend the last run off the last ball of the match. He delivered his trademark low full toss, which Phillips didn't catch well, and hit it straight to skipper Jason Holder at mid-on.

Holder failed to hold on to the ball not once but twice, as the batters ran quickly and secured the very important run to see off the match.

Holder's final ball blunder cost his team an opportunity to take the game to Super Over, where things could have turned out differently. Check the tweet below.

Russell fell to the ground in agony, while the Washington players in the dugout let out a sigh of relief and jumped into celebrations.

This was LAKR's fifth defeat of the season, continuing their poor record in the tournament.
