Assam’s rising cricket star Uma Chetry continues to receive love and recognition after India’s triumph in the Women’s World Cup 2025.
The young wicketkeeper-batter, who played a key role in India’s memorable campaign, was recently honoured by both the Assam government and the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

The state government announced a ₹25 lakh reward, while the ACA presented her with ₹51 lakh during a grand felicitation ceremony.
How did Assam celebrate Uma Chetry’s World Cup success?
Chetry’s return home turned into a festival-like celebration. There was huge gathering in her hometown,Bokakhat to welcome her in a grand rally. People showered flower petals as she passed by, accompanied by traditional drums and cheers from the crowd.
The felicitation event was jointly organised by the Bokakhat District Sports Association, Golaghat District Administration, and Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Administration.
The ceremony saw attendance from the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and over 100 local organisations.

What rewards did Uma Chetry receive from the ACA and state government?
At a separate event held at the ACA Stadium’s 91 Yards Club auditorium, Uma Chetry was felicitated by the Assam Cricket Association.
The event was attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and other top ACA officials, including President Taranga Gogoi, Vice-President Romen Dutta, and Treasurer Anupam Deka.
During the programme, ACA presented Uma with a cash prize of ₹51 lakh to celebrate her historic achievement.
A day earlier, during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government had also approved a ₹25 lakh grant for Chetry.
