Over the last few months, Shreyas Iyer has been in the headlines for various reasons, firstly for his batting and captaincy heroics with the Punjab Kings, followed by the shocking Asia Cup squad miss.

To his relief, the batter was named captain of India A for Australia A's upcoming tour of India, where he will lead the team in two unofficial Tests from September 16.

It is also being reported that the Mumbai batter is now in contention to make a return to the Test squad for the first time since early 2024.

Shreyas Iyer to return to India's Test team, suggests reports

Having played his last Test in February 2024 against England, Iyer has been on the sidelines of India's red-ball squad, missing the next 15 Tests across four series of Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia and England.

In the meantime, the batter won the Indian Premier League with the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Ranji Trophy, Irani Cup and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Mumbai, playing instrumental roles in all four campaigns.

As per RevSportz, as a reward for his consistent performances over the last 18 months, Iyer is now considered among India's options for the open middle-order spot for the West Indies series at home in October.

The Caribbeans will tour India for a two-match Test series from October 2, with Tests scheduled in Ahmedabad and Delhi, respectively.

His inclusion could possibly mean the end of the road for Karun Nair, who recently returned to the Indian team after an 8-year hiatus; however, failing to impress.
