The Indian women's cricket team created history as they won the Women's ODI World Cup for the first time in history by beating South Africa comprehensively in the final.
The Women in Blue had a mixed-bag run in the tournament, having lost to the heavyweights like Australia, South Africa and England but they managed to beat New Zealand in a do-or-die clash to qualify for the last-four stage.

In the semi-final, India stunned reigning champions Australia as they chased a 330-plus total, courtesy of Jemimah Rodrigues' brilliant century, to book their berth in the final.
In the grand finale at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls successfully defended 298 runs and beat the Proteas by 52 runs to bag their first-ever World Cup and ICC title.
While the likes of Jemimah, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal starred with their bats, it was middle-order batter and wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh, who powered India to several wins in the tournament. The youngster's powerful and fiery batting lower down the order has been a key contributor to India's triumph.

New cricket stadium in West Bengal to be named after Richa Ghosh
As the 22-year-old returned to her home state, West Bengal, as a World Cup winner, the state government announced that it would build a new cricket stadium in the northern part of the state, from where Ghosh hails and would name the venue after her to honour her amazing achievement.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement during a felicitation ceremony for Ghosh as she said: "Richa became a world champion at just 22. On behalf of the West Bengal government, we honoured her, but I want to do more. There’s about 27 acres of land in Darjeeling, and I’ve asked the mayor to plan a cricket stadium there. It should be named the Richa Cricket Stadium so that people remember her performance in the future and are inspired by it."
