India's young Test captain Shubman Gill has already become a fan favourite wherever he plays. The batter, with his immense talent and consistent performances, has well and truly gained the love of the Indian Cricket fans.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has now highlighted how the Indian skipper received lots of love at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, which happens to be Virat Kohli's home ground.

The Indian team is currently featuring in the second Test against the West Indies, which is being played in New Delhi.

Indian cricket has moved on, says Aakash Chopra on Gill's popularity

Chopra noted that several supporters held posters of Gill in the stands during the match, as he mentioned that though the love for Rohit and Virat would never die, Gill has made the fans move on from the Indian legends.

"Shubman Gill is in the heart of Delhi fans. I never thought this would happen. Small kids held banners for him. There were posters of Ro-Ko on one side, and in Kohli's hometown, and in his pavilion, people were clapping for Gill," said Chopra on his YouTube channel

"Indian cricket has definitely moved on. You may disagree, but what I saw in Delhi was in front of everyone. The love that we saw in Delhi, and the way cricket moves forward, is a reminder that time doesn't stop for anyone."

Shubman Gill's sublime form in international cricket

Gill is enjoying the form of his life this year. After a magnificent England series where he scored more than 750 runs, the batter smashed a half-century in the first Test against the West Indies and followed it up with a century (129 runs) in Delhi.

The young star recently also took over the ODI captaincy from Rohit Sharma. He will lead the Men In Blue in the 50-over format from the series against Australia starting on October 19th.
