On Tuesday, April 30, the Board of Control for Cricket in India finally announced the India squad that will fight to end the 11-year ICC trophy drought at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which begins on June 1 and will be held in the Caribbean and the USA.
In what was a squad chosen based on experience and conditions in USA, and to some extent recent performances — both for India and in IPL 2024 — there were not many surprises.

Rohit Sharma, as expected, is set to lead the Men in Blue at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain.
After much speculation, Virat Kohli has also been named in the squad, so is Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is expected to open the innings with Rohit.
The bowling lineup has one surprise, Yuzvendra Chahal. His consistent performances in IPL 2024 have been rewarded. Chahal will form the spin core with Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel, the latter two also boasting batting credentials.
Shivam Dube has been picked in the squad too, but Rinku Singh was left out unfortunately.
Players from four teams — Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Gujarat Titans — have been left out.
Rinku Singh (KKR), KL Rahul (LSG), Shubman Gill (GT), and Thangarasu Natarajan (SRH) are some of the notable absentees from these IPL teams.
