India's young wicket-keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel is all set to feature in India's first Test against South Africa, scheduled to be played at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata.

South Africa is touring India for a multi-format series, which includes two Tests, three ODIs and 5 T20Is. The series will kickstart with the red-ball format on November 14th.

Ten Doeschate: Jurel starts India vs SA first Test

The young keeper-batter from Uttar Pradesh is enjoying a great run of form in red-ball cricket at the moment and is likely to play as an extra batter in the side, in place of all-rounder Nitish Reddy. 

The development was confirmed by India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate in a media interaction ahead of the first game in Kolkata.

In the absence of the Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant, Jurel got the opportunity to feature in the home Tests against the West Indies and the 24-year-old made full use of it. 

In the two Test matches, he scored 175 runs in three innings, including a century. Jurel further went on to score two centuries in two innings against South Africa A in the unofficial Test.

The first Test between India and South Africa will be played from Friday, November 14th, at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
