What did Fatima Sana say about her bond with the Indian team?

Ahead of Sunday’s big match, Fatima Sana opened up about how players from both sides shared warm relations in the past. She said that despite the fierce competition, mutual respect has always existed between the two teams.

The Pakistan captain also fondly remembered the 2022 World Cup moment when the Indian players visited then-captain Bismah Maroof and her newborn baby.

“I was young when I played in the last World Cup in 2022, and after the Pakistan-India match, the whole Indian team came and met us. The way they celebrated and sat together, and had fun together, was really special. That was the moment I thought we had a great relationship with the Indian team, and I enjoyed that,” said Sana.

How has the rivalry changed in recent times?

Over the years, India vs Pakistan games have seen both emotional and intense sides. While those 2022 moments showed friendship and mutual warmth, the current environment between the two nations feels much heavier.

After the recent political tensions and heated scenes during the Asia Cup, the rivalry has grown sharper.

Still, for Fatima Sana, cricket remains the focus. She added: “I believe in our team because of the way the players have performed in the last few months. Everyone is in good shape and performing well. We will try to play good cricket against them. Our whole team is passionate about India vs Pakistan, so we will execute our best plans and try to win that match.”

As India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, looks to maintain their unbeaten record against Pakistan in women’s ODIs, Fatima’s side will aim to make history and claim their first-ever win over their arch-rivals.
