The Indian Test team are currently in action against West Indies in a two-match series on home soil, with the hosts leading 1-0.

India comprehensively beat the Windies by an innings in the first Test in Ahmedabad and the action now shifts to Delhi Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the second Test is scheduled to start on Friday, October 10.

India are favourites to clinch the series 2-0 in Delhi and complete a whitewash. This will also be India's first Test series win in over a year, as their last victory came over Bangladesh at home in September 2024.

The first Test between India and West Indies showed the gulf of class between the two sides as the once giants of world cricket were simply no match for the mighty Indians. The visitors were bowled out twice in the Test in Ahmedabad as they failed to cross 200 runs in either of their innings.

West Indies cricket, especially in the Test and ODI formats, has been on a consistent decline for two decades now. The two-time world champions did not even qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup and the last time West Indies won a Test match, let alone a series on Indian soil, was back in 1994

Ahead of the second Test, India captain Shubman Gill was asked about the declining standard of the West Indies team, to which Gill took a dig at the Caribbean side.

Speaking on their opponents on the eve of the second Test in Delhi, Gill told reporters: "I think it's the ICC's decision whether there should be a two-tier system or not. But I feel as a cricketing nation, whoever plays cricket, if your red-ball base is very strong, then you automatically do well in ODIs and T20s. If you look at any of the teams, England, Australia, if the Test teams are very good, it's a natural thing that your one-day and T20 teams will do well.

"I don't know, maybe their (West Indies) players' focus is more on T20 and leagues. So if your focus is on that, then the base from where the game has started, when you forget that, then the struggle of any country starts from there."
