Day 3 of the India vs West Indies Test in Delhi saw a slight change in India’s playing XI on the field.
Sai Sudharsan, who was one of India’s top performers with the bat earlier in the match, did not come out to field. His absence raised questions among fans watching the ongoing second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now issued an official update explaining the reason behind Sudharsan’s unavailability.
What happened to Sai Sudharsan during Day 2?
The incident took place on Saturday, during the eighth over of West Indies’ first innings. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a flighted delivery outside the off stump, tempting John Campbell to go for a slog-sweep.
Sai Sudharsan was positioned close in at forward short leg, one of the most dangerous spots for a fielder.
As Campbell went for the shot, the ball flew quickly toward Sudharsan, who instinctively ducked while trying to protect himself.
The ball struck his helmet and chest before rebounding into his hands, a stunning reflex catch that sent Campbell back for just 10 runs.
However, in the process, Sudharsan hurt his left hand and appeared to be in discomfort. He left the field soon after, even as his teammates celebrated the wicket.

What update has BCCI shared about Sai Sudharsan’s condition?
On Sunday morning, the BCCI issued an official statement to clarify the situation.
According to the medical report, Sudharsan suffered an impact injury while attempting that catch. The board confirmed that he did not take the field on Day 3 as a precautionary measure.
The statement read, “Sai Sudharsan had an impact injury on Day 2 while attempting a catch. He has not taken the field today as a precautionary measure. The injury is not serious, and he continues to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team.”
Before the unfortunate incident, the 23-year-old had impressed with the bat in India’s first innings. Batting at No. 3, Sudharsan played a calm and composed knock of 87 off 165 balls, striking 12 boundaries.
