On Monday, Sept. 29, England fast bowler Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, days after missing out on the Ashes squad for the Australia tour.
Earlier in the English summer, the 36-year-old's last contribution for England came heroically, when he stepped out to bat against India at the Oval with a dislocated shoulder in a sling.
Having made his debut in 2011, Woakes finishes his career as a World Cup 2019 and T20 World Cup 2022 winner and representing England on 217 occasions across formats.

Chris Woakes retires from international cricket after 14 years
On Monday afternoon, the player ended his 14-year career via social media, posting a statement stating his desire to continue playing County and franchise cricket around the world.
He further thanked his teammates, family, support staff and fans in his statement as a gesture of gratitude for the constant support.
"The moment has come and I’ve decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket," wrote Woakes.
"Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams. Representing England, wearing the Three Lions, and sharing the field with teammates over the last 15 years, many of whom have become lifelong friends, are things I’ll look back on with the greatest pride," he emphasized.
