India took on arch-rivals Pakistan in their second match of the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 14, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sanju Samson has been India's first-choice wicket-keeper in T20Is for over a year now and has done a fairly good job opening the innings alongside fiery left-arm batter Abhishek Sharma.
His position in the team, however, came under the scanner after BCCI picked Shubman Gill in the Asia Cup squad and made him the vice-captain.

Gill's inclusion in the team and his appointment as a deputy to Suryakumar Yadav were a clear indication that the opening slot will now go to the Gujarat Titans star.
Ahead of the tournament opener against UAE, there were speculations on whether the team management would play Sanju in the middle-order or would they go ahead with Jitesh as the team's first-choice custodian.
However, once the team was declared, Samson was included in the starting lineup and featured in the team as the first-choice wicket-keeper. Unfortunately for Samson, he didn't get to bat as the Men in Blue chased down the 57-run target comfortably with only one batter dismissed.
India retained the same starting lineup as Samson once again featured in the playing XI against Pakistan.
