The Gujarat Titans (GT) know they have a target on their chest as they continue to do battle in IPL 2023 as the defending champions.

Playing in their inaugural season in the competition, the Titans went all the way 12 months ago after defeating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets in the final in Ahmedabad.

Here, The Sporting News details all you need to know about the Titans.

The Titans are still in their infancy as an IPL franchise, but have a brilliant foundation on which to build after their heroics 12 months ago.

Skipper Hardik Pandya was instrumental in the final, dismissing dangerman Jos Buttler, as well as Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer as the Royals were restricted to just 130.

India youngster Shubman Gill played a measured unbeaten 45 off 43 as the Titans saw it home with 11 balls to spare.

In the regular season, the Titans won 10 of their 14 games to top the table and reach the finals.

The Titans have gone from strength-to-strength after an emphatic performance in the auction.

Kane Williamson was acquired after falling out of love and form with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The New Zealand star has shown his class on the international and domestic stage, and offered experience to a youthful roster - although his IPL season was cut short almost immediately as he suffered an injury in the opener against CSK.

With class in every department, it would be silly to write the Titans off in their quest to go back-to-back.

Gill has shown his class in white ball and red ball cricket and is being tipped to be the next captain of India in the longest form of the game.

The 23-year-old has been explosive in the two shorter formats, racking up 208 off 149 in a one-day outing against New Zealand in January.

He later made history by scoring 126 off 63 balls in a T20 fixture against the Black Caps, a knock that represented the highest by an India batter in the 20-over format surpassing the previous mark of 122 set by Kohli. The right-hander finished off his innings in clinical style, knocking off 59 off his final 18 balls as India earned a 168-run rout.

One of the brightest and most entertaining bowlers in T20 cricket is Rashid Khan. The scintillating right-armer has shown he can be handy with a bat in hand as well. The 24-year-old is one of the most sought-after cricketers in the world and the Afghanistan international took 19 wickets last season, claiming 4-24 against the Lucknow Super Giants.

Alzarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami lead the fast-bowling attack, while the Titans possess depth at wicketkeeper with Australia international Matthew Wade and recent India Test debutant K.S Bharat among the options to don the gloves.

David Miller will also have his name up in lights for the Titans at their home ground the Narendra Modi Stadium, which holds up to 132,000 people and is the biggest sporting stadium in the world.
