Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka became the latest player to join the exclusive '200 in an ODI' club when he scored an unbeaten 210 against Afghanistan on Friday (February 9) in Pallekele.

The first-ever ODI double century was scored by Sachin Tendulkar in 2009 against South Africa in Gwalior.

The previous highest score in ODIs before that game was 194, first scored by Pakistani opener Saeed Anwar in 1997 against India in Chennai, and then equalled by Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry, who remained unbeaten on 194 in Bulawayo against Bangladesh in 2009.

The Sporting News takes a look at all the players who have scored a double century in the 50-over format.

List of all players to have scored an ODI double century

India opener Rohit Sharma is the only batsman in ODI history to score more than one double century, having achieved the feat not twice but thrice.

Tendulkar, as mentioned earlier, became the first player ever to score a double century in ODIs. Meanwhile, in 2015, West Indies legend Chris Gayle became the first non-Indian batsman to score a double century, which was also the first time ever that someone scored 200 in a World Cup.
