We are less than a year away from the 2026 FIFA World Cup and European qualification for the tournament is now ramping up in the September international break this week.
Group A of UEFA qualification for the tournament has yet to begin, but it gets underway on Thursday with Slovakia take on Germany at the Tehelne Pole in the Slovakian capital city of Bratislava this midweek.
Slovakia, coached by Maurizio Sarri’s former assistant coach Francesco Calzona, have put in some excellent performances in recent years as the Slovakians now prepare to take on a Germany side still trying to find the rhythm and fluency desired by Julian Nagelsmann.
The Sporting News previews this one with the latest betting odds, tips and predictions.
Slovakia vs. Germany prediction
The Slovakians are a decent side and Calzona wants them to play quite a front foot and possession-based style of football, but the Germans would have to remain favourites, even away from home.
This promises to be a closely fought contest in Bratislava, but Germany go in as clear favourites at 1.44 with Dafabet, while a draw is offered at 4.75 Slovakia, meanwhile, are the underdogs at 7.65 to claim all three points.

Slovakia vs. Germany team news
- Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka has been suffering from a niggle in Naples, but appears fully fit for this week, whilst David Hancko has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Atletico Madrid, at least in terms of individual performances.
- Germany have an issue in goal with Marc-Andre ter Stegen out injured and so there is a lack of depth and experience between the sticks for Die Mannschaft.
- There are also issues up front for the Germans, too, with Jamal Musiala out injured alongside Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, and so Nick Woltemade, now of Newcastle United, could start.
