The Tampa Bay Buccaneers thought Haason Reddick would be the difference-maker for the defense, but injuries have halted the former Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher's progress.
As such, the Buccaneers have signed two-time Super Bowl champion Jason Pierre-Paul to their practice squad per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Pierre-Paul, who played four years in Tampa Bay and won the Super Bowl in 2020, now returns to Todd Bowles' team as it gets some much-needed depth in the form of the 36-year-old.
But if you thought this move was made with Reddick in mind, think again.
Per Fox Sports' Greg Auman, Pierre-Paul's signing has nothing to do with Reddick's ankle injury, as the franchise thinks the issue isn't long-term.

Buccaneers' NFC South path now cloudy
The Buccaneers had a healthy lead in the race for the NFC South title, but after losing four of their last five games, coupled with the resurgence of the Carolina Panthers, both franchises sit at 7-6 entering Week 15.
Oh, and they still have to play each other twice as well.
So, the Buccaneers have a genuine fight on their hands for the division, and it could be one that Pierre-Paul might be able to help with.
Now, he won't be a huge difference-maker, but can he make a play here and there? You bet.
Time will tell if that will be good enough, as Tampa Bay is now nervously looking over its shoulder with the Panthers close behind them.
