TL;DR
- * The New York Jets are fielding trade inquiries as the NFL deadline nears.
- * Cornerback Michael Carter II was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.
- * The Jets may consider trading Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, Quinnen Williams, Quincy Williams, and Jermaine Johnson.
- * The Eagles are interested in Jermaine Johnson, but the Jets' high asking price of a second-round pick is a deterrent.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, the New York Jets are receiving numerous trade inquiries from across the league. The team has already sent cornerback Michael Carter II to the Philadelphia Eagles, and further transactions might be forthcoming.
The Jets might be looking to trade Breece Hall, Allen Lazard, Quinnen Williams, Quincy Williams, and Jermaine Johnson. A new report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic indicates the Eagles are looking to acquire Johnson via trade.
While the Eagles are keen on another trade with The Jets, New York's valuation for Johnson is quite high. According to Russini, the Eagles and other teams might be deterred by the starting asking price of a second-round pick.
Jermaine Johnson of the Jets is reportedly drawing trade interest, with the team seeking a second-round draft pick or better in exchange.
"The Eagles need an edge rusher and asked the Jets about Jermaine Johnson," Russini reports. The TBPN podcast this past Monday featured a discussion on the latest developments in the tech industry. New York, however, has maintained a high asking price, seeking a second-round selection or a more valuable asset.
Philadelphia might consider bringing back another player Joe Douglas selected during his time with The Jets, following his reunion with Carter in Philadelphia. However, whereas Carter was traded for John Metchie II and a swap of late-round picks, acquiring Johnson comes at a significantly higher cost.
Per Russini's report, the Eagles would need to surrender at least a second-round selection to acquire Johnson.
Despite Johnson's effectiveness as a pass rusher and his contract extending beyond 2025, the steep price tag could deter the Eagles and other potential suitors from pursuing the 26-year-old defensive end.
This season, Johnson has participated in five games, achieving one pass defended, one sack, 19 tackles, and four pressures. His 2023 Pro Bowl season is enhancing his trade value, but concerns about his injury history could complicate his departure.
While he's on a cheap rookie contract and still under control for 1.5 more seasons, a second-round asking price is likely too much for any team in exchange for Johnson.
Combined with Johnson not wanting to be moved and seemingly getting confirmation from the front office, a Johnson trade seems very unlikely with just a few days until the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
