The New York Giants won't have quarterback Jaxson Dart on the field in Week 11, but there is hope he'll be back in Week 12.
Of course, Dart exited the Week 10 contest early with a concussion and he has already been ruled out for Sunday after interim head coach Mike Kafka named Jameis Winston the starter on Wednesday.
But there is some good news to report on Dart on Friday. While he isn't taking part in practice, according to Kafka, the rookie signal-caller was spotted outside with the team.
"Jaxson Dart sighting. He’s been ruled out for this week but being on the practice field today is a great sign for his progress through the concussion protocol," The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported.
While Kafka did not provide a timeline for Dart, he did note earlier in the week that the young quarterback was "right on track" as he makes his way through the concussion protocol.
“He’s in the middle of it, and to be honest with you, I have a lot of trust in our medical staff and our medical team, and they’re taking great care of him,” Kafka said on Wednesday. “So each day I get a little bit of an update, he’s right on track and right on pace in the program.”
Concussions can be very tricky, so there is absolutely no guarantee that Dart comes back after missing just one game. That said, the fact that he's outside lends to the idea it's at least possible.
Once the Giants go through the weekend and play their Week 11 game against the Packers, the next significant update we can expect will likely come next Wednesday, when the Giants put out their first Week 12 injury report.
