Patriots sign former Lions RB, cut ties with a different runner image

The New England Patriots made a move down their RB depth chart on Friday.

They signed former Detroit Lions running back Craig Reynolds.

To make space, they released Rushawn Baker, another running back.

Reynolds will go to the practice squad, at least initially.

The 5-foot-11, 29-year old RB is a cool story. He came from Division II Kutztown University and went undrafted.

Reynolds has played 60 games in his NFL career despite that inauspicious beginning.

He began with a season with Washington, then one with Jacksonville, and then he spent 2021-25 with the Lions.

Reynolds had played in seven games for Detroit this season before being cut loose.

In his seven NFL seasons, Reynolds has 154 runs for 658 yards and a touchdown.

He has also caught 25 passes for 258 yards.

Reynolds has also proven himself as a useful special teams player. He had six tackles in seven games this season for the Lions.

The Pats are healthy at RB again, with TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson and Terrell Jennings all on the active roster.

Reynolds joins D'Ernest Johnson on the practice squad at the running back position.
