The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday and names of potential replacements are all over the place. Bill Belichick has been mentioned. Steve Spagnuolo and Antonio Pierce — two guys with New York ties — have had their names dropped. Even current Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has been discussed.

One name that is sure to be mentioned by many is Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. The Giants may not want to have a defensive-minded coach come in to be the guy to guide Jaxson Dart into the future, but he is going to be on a short list of candidates to get a job soon.

And that is the point. Whether or not the Giants hire Minter doesn't necessarily matter. Daboll is not going to be the only head coach to lose his job before next season and with every opening that comes up, Minter will be mentioned as a fit. That's for good reason.

Minter is seen as one of the top young coaching candidates in the game. Daboll's early firing is a painful reminder to Chargers fans that he likely won't be on the same sideline as Jim Harbaugh for long, so long as becoming a head coach is his goal, and it seems like it is, especially since his dad, Rick Minter, was a college head coach and wanting to follow in his footsteps makes sense.

The Giants are going to search high and low for their next head coach. Despite the team not being a strong contender for quite some time, it's an attractive job.

The Chargers have a solid defense again this season and at 7-3, are poised ot make another playoff run. That will only bolster the resume of Minter, who at 42 years old, is a guy some team out there is going to want get a squeeze on as soon as possible.
