Will Colts sign Ryan Tannehill to replace Daniel Jones? Career update on veteran QB image

The Indianapolis Colts need to be putting out calls to any quarterback with a pulse in the wake of the season-ending injury to Daniel Jones.

Jones suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday that will knock him out for the rest of the campaign. If the Colts stick with rookie Riley Leonard and practice squad quarterback Brett Rypien, their season is cooked.

Granted, there is no sure answer out there for the Colts to replace Jones at this late stage in the season, but all options should be on the table, especially when it comes to adding a veteran who has a chance to keep Indy afloat.

One name mentioned after Jones' injury was quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who has not played since 2023 but has never formally announced his retirement from the NFL.

Tannehill began his career with the Miami Dolphins, but after eventually striking out there, he landed with the Tennessee Titans, where he managed to revive his career before an ugly ending his final two years in Nashville.

While it remains to be seen what Tannehill has left in the tank at this point, it's fair to believe he would at least be an upgrade over Leonard and Rypien.

But would Tannehill, 37, have any interest in joining the Colts for the stretch run of the season? Here's what we know.

Ryan Tannehill career update

Unfortunately for the Colts, it doesn't look like Tannehill is going to be an option.

According to DJ Siddiqi of Dolphin Nation, Tannehill said last month that he is enjoying not playing football and isn't considering coming back.

“Fully content, I’m at peace with everything,” Tannehill said. “Thankful for my 12 years and the time I was able to have there.

"So many great experiences, so many great friendships, so many things that I look back on in a positive light and thankful for all the opportunities that I had. But definitely at peace with everything and happy to be where I’m at now.”

So, there you have it.

Tannehill is happy in his unofficial retirement and won't be an option for Indianapolis moving forward.
