As the world awaits for official word on what the Indianapolis Colts will do with quarterback Philip Rivers, Pat McAfee has shed some light on the situation.

The former Colts punter and current ESPN talk show host revealed on Tuesday morning that Indy is expected to sign Rivers "at some point today."

"Annnnnd all indications are pointing towards future HOFer & current 44 year old Grandfather, Phil Rivers to be announced as the Colts QB at some point today," McAfee wrote.

The Colts reportedly had Rivers in for a workout on Monday night and are wasting no time trying to see if the 44-year-old has anything left in the tank.

Indy trying to lure Rivers out of retirement makes sense.

Sure, he hasn't played since 2020 and there is no telling what he has left in the tank, but the Colts are desperate in the wake of the season-ending injury to Daniel Jones.

With Jones on the shelf, the Colts have to rely on rookie Riley Leonard and veteran Brett Rypien, who is on the practice squad, to guide them to the playoffs. Leonard isn't even certain to play, as he's dealing with a knee injury.

Anthony Richardson isn't an option, either, as he's still on injured reserve due to an eye injury.

There is at least a chance that Rivers is still better than Leonard and Rypien, and if that is the case, he gives the Colts a better shot to make the playoffs than they would have otherwise.

Entering Week 15, the Colts are on the outside looking in for the playoffs, with Indy sitting in third place in the AFC South and in the No. 8 spot in the playoff picture.
