TL;DR

  • Shedeur Sanders won his first start for the Cleveland Browns, performing admirably against the Las Vegas Raiders.
  • Sustained performance is crucial for Sanders to secure a long-term opportunity with the Browns' offense.
  • Despite Sanders' success, some like Mike Renner of CBS Sports predict the Browns will draft Ty Simpson in 2026.
  • The Browns' long-term quarterback situation needs enhancement, and Sanders must earn the starting position.

Shedeur Sanders debuted for the Cleveland Browns and secured a win in his first career start, suggesting that sustained performance could lead to Cleveland entrusting him with the offense.

It will be fascinating to observe the front office's and coaching staff's intentions, but Sanders performed quite admirably in Week 12 versus the Las Vegas Raiders and unquestionably warrants increased playing time. He'll receive that in Week 13, though he must persist in his current performance to secure a genuine long-term opportunity.

Even with this situation, some people still think Sanders won't be the Browns' future quarterback, such as Mike Renner from CBS Sports. He recently forecasted that the Browns would choose Ty Simpson from The University of Alabama with the third overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Simpson continues to be one of the most impressive downfield passers in college football. His ability to find throwing lanes at the intermediate level is second to none this season. He's thrown for 22 scores compared to only two interceptions this year,” he wrote.

Should Sanders continue his strong performance through the end of the season, it's probable the Browns won't be considering any quarterback options.

Still, if there's any doubt about his long-term prospects, acquiring another quarterback wouldn't be the worst move.

Cleveland's long-term quarterback situation clearly requires enhancement, so Sanders must genuinely earn the starting position if he aims to be the primary player.
