Bears RB duo hits mark not seen since Walter Payton in Eagles win image

The Chicago Bears' offense this year has been revolutionized. Fans of the team haven’t seen a unit perform at this level in many, many years. 

Caleb Williams has been fantastic this season, especially over the course of their 8-1 stretch since Week 3. Ben Johnson’s play culture, setting, and play-calling have also been a major proponent of change to the offense.

With Johnson’s offense featuring an influx of the play-action and trickery, it has opened up the field so much more for Bears RBs D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai. 

Today, when the Bears took on the Philadelphia Eagles, both Swift and Monangai were able to accomplish a feat that hasn’t been seen for Chicago since 1985. 

Swift and Monangai both eclipse 100+ yards

The Bears went into Philadelphia today and established their dominance over the reigning Super Bowl Champions. Rather quickly as well. 

Chicago got to their run game early, and it paid off. Swift and Monangai both continued to rip off large runs, and with those runs came valuable seconds. The Bears had essentially double the time of possession as the Eagles by the end of the game. 

As those runs accumulated and the seconds continued to tick, Swift and Monangai quietly made Bears history by becoming the first RB tandem to both rush for 100+ yards. A feat not accomplished since 1985, when Walter Payton (105) and Matt Suhey (102). 

The Bears have certainly had their fair share of naysayers over the course of the season, and rightfully so. Today, however, with a dominant win over a top conference opponent, they look very real. 

If they can continue to run the ball like this, they won’t be an easy out in the playoffs.
