The Atlanta Falcons are hoping to get wide receiver Drake London back for the Week 15 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
London sustained a PCL injury in his knee back in Week 11 and has not played or practiced since. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris continues to label London as "day to day," but he did not practice on Monday.
On Tuesday, Tori McElhaney of AtlantaFalcons.com weighed in on London's chances of playing this week and it was not a positive take.
"I am not putting it outside the realm of possibility that London gets the green light for this Thursday. However, it is not something I am particularly holding my breath about," McElhaney wrote. "Despite the fact Raheem Morris said Monday that he is still considering London 'day-to-day,' I don't think that means he gets the go-ahead on a short week when we haven't seen him practice since he got hurt in Week 11."
McElhaney goes on to rightly add that the Falcons have zero reason to rush London back given the fact that they're already out of playoff contention, so he isn't likely to return at anything less than 100%.
"Also, the nature of a PCL sprain worries me," McElhaney said. "Those things — depending on the severity — can linger, and even worsen if not given time to properly heal."
"With the Falcons officially out of playoff contention, ain't no way I am rushing London back if I am a decision-maker," McElhaney added.
Ultimately, the Falcons reporters does not believe London will play.
"If London can get some practice reps, maybe he will be a true game-time decision. However, I think it is more likely the Falcons continue to shut him down this week and hope to get him back to 100% after the mini-bye," McElhaney concluded.
Truth be told, the Falcons should probably just shut London down for the rest of the season.
After all, their playoff hopes are dead and Michael Penix Jr. Is out for the season, so it's not like there's a motivation to bring London back to help the young quarterback's development.
With a short week, and with the Falcons out of playoff contention, chances are we won't see London return in Week 15.
