With Notre Dame's omission from the College Football Playoff and subsequent decision to opt out of a bowl game, the transfer portal news will likely begin to come fast and furious.

It's officially the offseason for the Fighting Irish.

One player who appears to be leaving is quarterback Kenny Minchey.

Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reports that Minchey is "expected" to enter the transfer portal.

Minchey was at one time a four-star QB recruit, but he lost the Notre Dame quarterback competition to CJ Carr this fall.

Carr played a great season, meaning Minchey surely doesn't see a starting future in South Bend.

Minchey came to Notre Dame from Hendersonville, Tennessee in the 2023 recruiting class. He chose the Fighting Irish over the likes of Pitt, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Michigan State.

He was the No. 14 QB in his class according to Rivals.

Minchey threw for more than 5,000 yards in his high school career at Pope Saint John Paul II Prep.

His original college commitment was to the Pittsburgh Panthers. It seems unlikely that Minchey would consider Pitt now, though, after true freshman QB Mason Heintschel made their quarterback job his this fall.

Minchey will have plenty of suitors, but he hasn't played much at Notre Dame.

Interestingly, he is 14-for-15 passing (93.3%) in his limited playing time, for 146 yards.

He also has a rushing touchdown on five total carries for 31 yards.

Someone will get a talented but unproven player in Minchey. He stuck with Notre Dame but is now looking for a fresh start.
