After clinching the American Athletic Conference title Friday night, Tulane all but secured its place in the expanded College Football Playoff and now the conversation turns to where the Green Wave will land when the final rankings are revealed Sunday.

Tulane’s 34-21 victory over North Texas capped a dominant stretch in which the Green Wave rattled off 31 unanswered points after falling behind early.

The win locked up the automatic berth reserved for the highest-ranked Group of Five champion, ensuring Tulane returns to the national stage two years after its Cotton Bowl breakthrough.

According to On3's Brett McMurphy, Tulane is expected to earn either the No. 11 or No. 12 seed in the 12-team field. That positioning carries major implications.

As FOX analyst Joel Klatt noted, the difference between the No. 6 and No. 7 spots, which will determine key first-round matchup is shaping the rest of the bracket, and Tulane’s seed will dictate which powerhouse program awaits.

If the Green Wave land at No. 12, they will face the No. 5 seed on the road in a first-round matchup, likely against a high-profile at-large team. Oregon or Ole Miss could be waiting in this case. A No. 11 seed would present a similar challenge.

Either way, Tulane is headed back to the postseason spotlight and into a CFP that will test whether a top Group of Five champion can hang with college football’s elite.
